Outdoor Expo and Wellness Fair This August in Franconia

Plans are well underway for the 3rd Annual Feel'n Top Notch Outdoor Expo and Wellness Fair that will take place on Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in a new location - Dow Field - downtown Franconia. The Top Notch Triathlon, hosted by Franconia Parks & Recreation will be held on the same day as the outdoor expo and wellness fair to increase participation in both events and to offer affordable activities for the entire family in northern New Hampshire.

Littleton Regional Hospital, Franconia Parks & Recreation and Franconia Notch Chamber of Commerce, is partnering to create an affordable summer event for families. The Expo and Wellness Fair is intended to provide numerous opportunities for people to learn outdoor skills and wellness tips in a fun and exciting environment. The Triathlon will attract bikers, hikers and swimmers from all over New England.

The Expo will feature hands on activities, exhibits, and demonstrations on topics including fishing, hiking, biking, wilderness first-aid, Hike Safe Program, maps and compasses, moose-myths & facts and information for every hiker. The whole family can enjoy demonstrations and hands on activities including a climbing wall, Smokey Bear, forestry trucks, forest fire prevention, and fly casting, to name a few.

The wellness fair will include FREE health screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose screenings, and body mass analysis. Fitness tips and healthy eating demonstrations will be included to promote healthy lifestyles for children and adults. Holistic medicine techniques and demonstrations will be part of this exciting event. Admission to the outdoor expo and wellness fair (only) is FREE.

Bikers, hikers and swimmers are encouraged to register for the Top Notch Triathlon, which will take place on the same day - Saturday, 7, 2010. The triathlon will begin in Franconia, NH. Bikers will ride along 3 miles of paved road before embarking on a wooded uphill trail climb to the top of Franconia Notch. The next leg will be a plunge into pristine Echo Lake (average August water temp: 65) for a brisk swim. The last leg will be for hikers who will climb up the ski trails of Cannon Mountain. The vertical rise from lake to the summit will be 2,280 feet. The grand total vertical climb from start to finish will be a phenomenal 3320 feet. Gail Clark, director of development and community relations at Littleton Regional Hospital stated, "We are so pleased to host the outdoor expo and wellness fair on the same day at the Top Notch Triathlon. We are hopeful that holding the events on the same day will increase the number of participants and bring many people to the White Mountains of New Hampshire."

Kim Cowles, Director of Parks & Recreation in Franconia states, "We are pleased to hold the Top Notch Triathlon on the same day as the expo. It provides an opportunity for families of anyone participating in the triathlon to participate in the expo event. Having the wellness component is an added benefit for everyone, as LRH will offer free health screenings and health related information."
